Título: APRENDENDO BRAILLE: O ENSINO DO SISTEMA BRAILLE COM O USO DO TAGARELA

Abstract:
This research paper presents the development of the Braille module for the alternative communication application called “Tagarela”. The module aims at assisting the teaching and learning process of the Braille System for sighted people. It is believed that the more people learn the Braille System, whether they are parents, teachers, or other children, the better the prospects of learning for visually impaired children in the literacy phase are, and the more aware they become of the need of the use of braille as a primary form of communication and access to information. To develop this research paper, PhoneGap was used with the following programming languages: HTML5, CSS and JavaScript. This allowed the release of the application on multiple platforms, and the main ones addressed in this paper are Android, iOS and web. At the end of the development, application usability tests were performed with students of the Braille System discipline, from the Special Education course at FURB, making it possible to make a qualitative assessment of the results. It could be concluded that the braille module not only helps in the teaching and learning process in a ludic and interactive way, but also helps teachers from the Specialized Educational Service who work with children with visual impairment in identifying signals during the activities developed in the school context.
